The Small Room Nobody Thinks About: What a Building’s Comms Closet Actually Needs

A comms room may be unoccupied while its load remains active.

Networking and communication equipment can continue generating heat when the surrounding office is empty or in setback.

That makes normal floor occupancy a poor signal for how the room itself should operate.

The relevant inputs are different: equipment load, temperature, alarms and the operating requirements of the space.

This does not require completely bespoke automation.

The control structure can remain standardised while the operating profile reflects what is actually driving the load.

People-driven space and equipment-driven space should not automatically follow the same operating assumptions.
